A Provo one-day itinerary can pair a morning at Brigham Young University with a free museum stop, time in downtown Provo, and an evening performance at the Covey Center. Royal Inn Provo is about a 6-minute walk from BYU, and its room options put the university close at hand.

  • Start: Walk around BYU, then choose a museum.
  • Museum options: The BYU A/B Gallery is free and open on weekdays; the Monte L. Bean Life Science Museum is free and has weekday and Saturday hours.
  • Downtown: Head to Provo city centre for a change of scene; UVX connects downtown with BYU and Provo Central Station.
  • Evening: Check the Covey Center schedule and plan for its parking and seating arrangements.
Start with the BYU campus

Start with the BYU campus

Begin your day at Brigham Young University, then choose a gallery or museum stop on campus. The Brigham Young University visitor guide covers campus planning in more detail.

BYU’s A/B Gallery is inside the south-side entrance of ARTS 1104–1110, facing the Wilkinson Center and Library. Admission is free, and the gallery presents approximately 50 exhibitions annually. It is open Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm, and closes during campus holidays and school breaks, so check the official site before you go.

Marked visitor parking is available in the Museum of Art parking lot. The adjoining A Lot becomes public parking at 4pm. The Annual Student Exhibition generally takes place in late March and early April, with dates that vary slightly from year to year.

Choose a museum stop

Choose between the BYU A/B Gallery and the Monte L. Bean Life Science Museum, both free places to add to a campus visit.

BYU A/B Gallery

The A/B Gallery is a compact option for a weekday visit, with free public admission and approximately 50 exhibitions each year. Its regular hours are Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm, except during campus holidays and school breaks. For details about visiting the Museum of Art, see this guide to the BYU Museum of Art.

Monte L. Bean Life Science Museum

The Monte L. Bean Life Science Museum presents exhibits about natural communities and the relationships among plants, animals, and their physical environment. Admission is free; hours are Monday to Friday, 10am–9pm, and Saturday, 10am–5pm, with the museum closed on Sunday.

Its later weekday closing time can suit a day when you would rather spend the morning elsewhere. The museum is at BYU; its exhibits offer a different focus from the university’s art gallery. A separate visit guide to the Monte L. Bean Life Science Museum covers this campus stop.

How do you get from BYU to downtown Provo?

How do you get from BYU to downtown Provo?

UVX connects BYU with downtown Provo and Provo Central Station, making it a practical link between the campus portion of the day and the city centre. Provo city reports pickups every 6–10 minutes.

The city says some BYU and UVU ID cards provide unlimited free access to UTA transit; check with the school to confirm eligibility before relying on that benefit. If you are driving, downtown has over 10,000 parking spaces across more than 58 acres, and the city recommends parking garages for stays longer than two hours.

Downtown gives the itinerary a change of pace after the campus museums. For trips beyond the city, FrontRunner operates Monday to Saturday, with weekday service every 30 minutes during peak travel times and every 60 minutes during non-peak hours; Saturday service is every 60 minutes. The service connects 15 stations along an 83-mile corridor between Ogden and Provo.

Walk around downtown before settling on an evening plan. Provo’s theatres offer different settings for a night out, and the guide to theatres in Provo can help you compare venues.

A performance at the Covey Center can round out the day; check its schedule and arrange your ticket before heading over. Tickets for performances hosted there are available through the center’s ticketing website, identified by the city as Covey.Provo.gov.

Public parking areas are within a 10-minute walk of the Covey Center, including areas south of the venue and on Center Street. The center advises arriving early to find parking. Parking in the roundabout and the driveway south of the center is prohibited.

Seating doors open 30 minutes before the stated show time, although they may open later if the client is not ready. You may bring a water bottle, but other outside food is not permitted. Bottled drinks and packaged treats purchased at the center are allowed in the theater.
